FAQs

PLANNING & PREPARATION

Is there anything I should do to prepare before getting my tattoo?

  • MOISTURIZE!!! Please lotion the area you are planning on getting tattooed. I would prefer at least 4 weeks prior, but late is better than never. Keeping the area moisturized provides the ideal tattooing condition for me, as well as healing. Dry skin does not like to be aggravated.

  • Please make sure you eat something before getting your tattoo. Raising your blood sugar levels helps prevent from passing out or feeling unwell during the tattoo.

  • CLOTHING- wear comfortable clothing that will allow me easy access to the area that I am tattooing.

  • Please avoid alcohol before getting your tattoo the day before and day of your tattoo. Drinking alcohol thins the blood and increases inflammation when getting the tattoo done.

What does “Books are closed mean?”

  • When you receive notification that books are closed, this just mean I am booked out until further notice. If you would like to stay up to date about when they reopen please follow me on Instagram!

Am I guaranteed an appointment after your books re-open?

  • Unfortunately I cannot guarantee that you will be booked for an appointment. I will be scheduling two months out at all times so you will have a chance to get on the books on the next scheduling period. Tattoos in my preferred style and things that I get excited about do have priority!

Do you do all styles of tattooing?

  • Between Doug and Cayla, they can accomplish all styles of tattoo designs.

  • Cayla prefers styles such as fine line illustrative, Neo-Traditional, Dotwork and Blackwork. While these are her favorites, she is always happy to hear your ideas!

  • Doug prefers styles such as Color and B&G Realism, American Traditional, Horror Realism, and New School.

What should I wear to my tattoo session?

Being comfortable is more important than being fashionable. Please make sure to keep in mind I will need to have easy access to the location I will be tattooing. If you are getting a tattoo in a risque position make sure you have something that you are comfortable in and could cover up yourself if necessary.

For upper thigh a loose fitting skirt or shorts that can be raised up high is preferred. You could also wear a bikini bottom with ties at the side.

For sternum and middle of the chest, a bikini top with ties in the center are usually best.

For back, wear a bikini top with ties in the back. Feel free to add a zip up hoodie worn backwards!

It is important to us that you do not make yourself uncomfortable at any time during the session but we do need to be able to adequately do our job.

How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?

It can take about 3-4 weeks for a tattoo to fully heal.

How long until I can go swimming after getting a tattoo?

Do not go swimming, tanning, or submerging under ANY type of water, salt water or chlorinated included, for at least four weeks after getting a tattoo.

Is there anything special I should do after my tattoo is done healing?

It is recommended to use sunscreen after your tattoo is done healing any time that you will be out in the sun. Use at least SPF 50. This will keep your tattoo from fading away from sun exposure. Remember, the tattoo is under two layers of skin in your Dermis; when you go tanning you are creating darker pigmentation of your outer layers of skin so if you tan it’s kind of like looking at your tattoo through a filter. Using sunscreen will prevent creating darker pigmentation and will keep your tattoo looking brand new for years to come.

SHOP POLICY QUESTIONS

Can I bring a guest with me to my appointment?

You can bring one or two guests with you to your tattoo appointment. Guests are welcome above the age of 16.

How old do you have to be to get a tattoo?

In the state of Tennessee you are legally able to get a tattoo at the age of 18. You cannot get a tattoo unless you are 18 even if you have parental consent.

Do you accept walk-ins?

I am currently appointment only in a private studio; however, if you would like an appointment the same day, feel free to contact me and I will do my best to fit you in.

Please keep in mind, I do typically book pretty far in advance. If you are serious about getting work done, I would highly recommend planning it out months in advance.

Can I bring my kids?

I do not accept kids in my studio because I am a small space and do my best work when I am focused and do not have kids that you need to take a break to take care of when they need anything. I respect that you love your kids, please respect that I love being able to focus on my work.

What are your hours of operation?

Being a private studio I do not have set hours. I do not work Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays. If you have further questions about when you can get your tattoo done, please contact me directly. I will do my best to accommodate your schedule Wednesday-Saturday.

Important things I’d like you to know.

  • I offer free 30 minute consultations for discussing your tattoo ideas or any other tattoo related questions you might have.

  • If you do have any questions or concerns, please contact me immediately. I am always happy to help.

  • Some ideas will not work as a tattoo if they are too small or too busy. I will not tattoo your design after a certain point if I think that the quality of your design will be compromised. Please respect I want your tattoo to be legible and easily discernible for years to come.
